Hazells Bowls Club was founded in 1923and was a section of the printing
company of Hazell Watson and Viney Sports Club.
The company provided facilities that covered many sports indoors and out
from table tennis to football, and including Bowls with a Green well kept
and able to accommodate the County Finals.
In the 1980's Robert Maxwell bought and sold the company and since that
time Aylesbury Vale District Council has owned the Bowls complex.
The Aylesbury Vale District Council were approached by the bowlers and
agreed to lease the site to the members. With a great deal of hard work
and donations from former bowling members of the company the complex was
closed for 1989-90 whilst a clubhouse was erected solely for the use of
the bowlers. Since that time the club has had to be and is now completely
self sufficient.
The club celebrated its 80th Anniversary in 2003, had a memorable match
with the English Bowling Association to mark the event.
The rest of the company grounds are now a housing complex and a new
Tesco's Supermarket. |
