The
picture shows the finalists before taking to the green on 27th August. The
weather was a little cooler than usual for Finals Day, and had the odd shower
to freshen the green but there were some excellent contests. Not least was
the Championship final itself, which saw outsider Tom Turkington come back from
14-2 down to beat defending Champion Colin Beattie 21-17. The picture on the
right shows Match Secretary David Winks with the finalists before play.
Play
continued, with several keenly contested matches (Fred Park winning 21-20 over
Ronnie Ferguson in the Isle of Skye Trophy; George Broomfield beating Ian Bowie
21-19 in the Vice President's) until the Triples competition ended with Bob
Speirs, Dan Carlin and David Linley lying the five shots they needed to win at
the final end. Until Skip Jim Cuthbertson drove into the head and removed some
shots to see
his team home.
Presentations took place after the match to David and Wilma Macdonald, who
defeated Grace and Jim Rippard in the mixed pairs.
