Batchwood Hall continues to
enjoy its timeless surrounds set in the rural part of St Albans.
Batchwood Hall Bowling Club is to be found in the peaceful rural surroundings of the Batchwood Hall Golf Course, Batchwood Drive St. Albans: the only noise being the singing of the birds, the occasional shout of "fore" and, of course, the evocative sound of wood on wood.
The green is open from mid-April until the end of September with the rinks being available (subject to matches, competitions etc) from 10:30am until dusk - weather and green-keeper permitting!
The club play matches against other local clubs, which are either friendly or league fixtures in ladies, men's and mixed teams. In addition, members can play in the club mixed triples league and in the Club, District and County championships if they wish. We also have a very strong social side.
We are a friendly club and wish to encourage new bowlers, particularly families and those who have never bowled before and, we are delighted to announce, Monday evening “Roll Up’s” are to be continued as from early May in the hope of encouraging members of the community to discover “Bowls”. Just turn up with flat shoes or plimsolls and we will provide bowls and give you tuition. Refreshments and Supper will be available.
We are also running ‘Open Days’. These are generally family orientated but everyone is welcome to these sessions. The dates for these events are Sunday April 22nd; Saturday May 19th and Saturday June 16th. Just turn up with flat shoes or plimsolls and we will provide bowls and give you tuition. Refreshments will be provided.
This is a game that is both fun and challenging and is unique in that it can be played indoors and out. It can be played by people of any age and is also very sociable and offers opportunities to meet like minded people. It is often said that this is a young man’s sport played by old people!
